Important Features to Get You More Productive On Your Laptop

These are features are mostly applicable Windows users, they include:

1. Snap

Snap is a feature that aids the organization of applications on windows using mouse, keyboard or the snap shortcut assist in a way that is suitable for usage. It also gives the benefit of taking the full advantage of the full screen area of the laptop. In this way, two files can be opened side by side on the screen for an easier process. It is mostly applicable to developers who manange multiple screens all at once. It is a useful tool in organizing various Window areas easily. Some of the shortcuts features are:

  • Win + Left: snaps to the left half.
  • Win + Right: Snaps to the right half.
  • Win + Left and Win + Up: snaps to the top-left edge.
  • Win + Right and Win + Up: snaps to the top-right edge.
  • Win + Left and Win + Down: snaps to the bottom-left edge.
  • Win + Right and Win + Down: snaps to the bottom-right edge.

2. Locking and Unlocking the Laptop

This is a feature used when locking, unlocking or restarting a laptop. An easier way to access this is with the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Alt + Del key. This feature makes it easier to switch multiple Windows accounts easily.

3. Onscreen Keyboard

An Onscreen keyboard or OSK is a software component that allows the input of characters without the need of a physical keyboard. The OSK comes in handy when the physical keyboard becomes defective. The OSK does not require the use of touch screen to work as the keyboard is displayed on the screen and a pointing device such as mouse, is used for the touch. It also serves as an alternative for people who don’t like the keyboard clicks sound. A way to enable this feature on Window Operating System is;

  • Click on the Windows Key
  • Open settings
  • Click on ease of access
  • Select the keyboard option
  • Activate the Onscreen key board.
  • The OSK automatically comes into display.

The Keyboard Shortcut can also be used to toggle the onscreen keyboard: Win + Ctrl + O

4. Sticky Notes

This is a feature that aids quick note taking and also manages multiple sticky notes at once, just like a standard real-life sticky note. The sticky note automatically saves the content typed into it without the need for a user to manually save the content. Various editing capabilities exists with the sticky note feature, such as changing the colour of notes, creating a new note and viewing a note list, all these can be gotten by clicking the ellipsis (...) at the top right corner of the sticky note window.

An easy way to access sticky notes is by using Windows + S key to bring up a search box and typing on "sticky notes", the sticky icon is then clicked for use.

5. Snipping Tool

The snipping tool is the best way to take screenshots on windows if you are looking for a way to customize or share your screen captures; it automatically saves the captures from your screen to the clipboard. To activate the sniping tool, click on the Windows + S key. A search box appears to be able to search for snipping tool. Upon clicking it, a mini menu will appear on at the top of the screen while the whole screen becomes dim. Then you can now take a capture of any form on the screen at that particular time.

An easier to access the snipping tool is by using the keyboard shortcut: Windows + Shift + S
